The Gwangju Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on the 25th that it held a 2026 briefing on veterans programs to expand understanding and support for veterans policies.

The briefing, held that day in the main conference room on the third floor of the Gwangju Government Complex, was attended by the heads and officials of 16 veterans organizations in the Gwangju area. The event was organized to invite the heads and executives of veterans organizations in Gwangju City, explain the major veterans programs to be implemented in 2026 and the changes to veterans systems taking effect this year, and to strengthen communication with veterans organizations and expand public support for veterans policies by collecting current issues and suggestions.

Starting this year, a registration system for spouses of veterans of merit will be implemented, and new welfare support programs for veterans organizations centered on veterans halls will be promoted. The core of these programs is to revitalize veterans halls as local hubs for veterans welfare by operating cultural and leisure programs and providing meal support for participants.

In addition, improvements to systems designed to further stabilize the lives of veterans families, including increases in livelihood support payments and various veterans benefits, were also introduced. During the briefing, each department presented its major projects for 2026, followed by a field-oriented communication session in which questions and suggestions from the heads of veterans organizations were heard.

Acting Director Kim Jongil of the Gwangju Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said, "For veterans policies to provide practical help on the ground, close cooperation between the Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and veterans organizations is more important than anything else," adding, "We will continue to do our best, together with veterans organizations, to improve the quality of life of those who served the nation and to build a society where their honor and pride are respected."
