Launch of Daegu Hanui University Uiseong Campus
Aiming to Foster Cell Culture Talent and Youth Settlement
Uiseong County has begun working to cultivate talent for the local bio industry and to create a foundation for young people to settle in the region through cooperation with a university.
Uiseong County announced that on the 24th it held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the Daegu Hanui University Uiseong Campus at the Cheongchun Eoram Youth Complex Cultural Center in Geumseong-myeon, and thereby began full-scale operation of a residential, community-based education and research hub.
About 50 people attended the event, including Uiseong County Mayor Kim Jusu and Daegu Hanui University President Byun Changhun, as well as university officials and students and county officials. The program included a presentation of the campus operation plan, congratulatory remarks, welcoming remarks, the plaque unveiling ceremony, and a commemorative photo session.
The establishment of the Uiseong Campus is a strategic project designed to respond to the crisis of regional extinction, which is worsening due to population decline and the outflow of young people. It has been promoted with the goal of building a cooperation system among the university, the local government, and companies to foster region-specific talent and create a residential ecosystem.
The Uiseong Campus will operate residential, community-based programs that combine education, research, and start-ups, using Cheongchun Eoram as its hub. Key initiatives include establishing a local education center tailored to the region, strengthening the settlement capabilities of overseas talent and providing on-site training linked to companies, creating a specialized department for the cell culture industry and training professional personnel, and supporting technology development and commercialization for local companies.
In particular, customized talent development linked to the cell culture sector, which is a strategic industry for Uiseong County, is expected to help enhance the competitiveness of local bio companies and create high-quality jobs. The campus is also expected to be connected with the university's ongoing Glocal University 30 project, raising expectations for the creation of an innovative model in which the region and the university grow together.
Uiseong County Mayor Kim Jusu said, "The Uiseong Campus is a key hub where the university, the local government, and companies work together to nurture local talent and design the foundation of future industries," adding, "We will spare no administrative support so that Uiseong can leap forward as a glocal city where education and industry form a virtuous cycle."
Meanwhile, Uiseong County has continuously expanded its bio industry infrastructure, including a Cell Culture Industry Support Center and a culture medium production plant, and with the opening of this campus, the creation of a bio cluster that integrates education, research, and production is expected to gain further momentum.
