Asan Foundation Awards 3.9 Billion Won in Scholarships to 498 Students...Supporting Talent in Biomedical Science and Health Care

The Asan Foundation has awarded more than 3.9 billion won in scholarships to 498 students, including talent in the fields of biomedical science and health care policy.

The Asan Foundation announced that it held the 2026 Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony on the 25th in the auditorium of the Asan Institute for Life Sciences at Seoul Asan Medical Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul. A total of 498 students, including 88 graduate students and 410 undergraduates, received scholarships that day.


The 78 graduate students in the biomedical science program consist of 47 studying in Korea and 31 studying overseas. They receive annual support ranging from 20 million won to 40 million won. Ten graduate students in the health care policy program each receive 10 million won per year.


The undergraduate scholarship program is also operated across a wide range of fields. Thirty-five undergraduates aspiring to become biomedical scientists and 45 North Korean defector youths were selected. There are 230 MIU scholarship recipients who are children of personnel contributing to national safety, including members of the military, police, fire service, and Coast Guard. The program also includes 100 regional academia-industry cooperation scholarship recipients who participate in on-site industrial training and similar programs.


Undergraduate students in the biomedical science program and North Korean defector youth scholarship recipients receive 6 million won per year as academic support. MIU scholarship recipients and regional academia-industry cooperation scholarship recipients receive 4 million won per year.


Since its establishment in 1977, the Asan Foundation has continued its scholarship programs. To date, it has provided a total of 94.9 billion won in scholarships to approximately 37,000 students.
