This round of commendations was carried out to boost the pride of industry, academia, and research institutions that research, manage, and hold national strategic technologies or operate related businesses, and to promote the development of national strategic technologies. Vice President Kim, who received the commendation, is recognized for enhancing the competitiveness of AI semiconductors during his 23 years in the semiconductor industry. Group Head Kim was acknowledged for strengthening advanced semiconductor process technology capabilities through joint research and development with global semiconductor companies. Ryu Giho, Patent Officer at the Korea Institute of Patent Information, established the strategic direction and foundation of policies for fostering national strategic technologies through trend analysis based on patent big data.
On the same day, the Ministry of Science and ICT delivered national strategic technology certificates and plaques to five companies that received national strategic technology certification last year: Ewha EL, Medical AI, Enchem, Trillion Labs, and BOS Semiconductor. The national strategic technology certification system confirms whether technologies that are held, managed, or under research and development by industry, academia, and research institutions qualify as national strategic technologies. Since March 2024, a total of 12 technologies from 11 companies have been certified.
Bae Kyunghun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, said, "Thanks to the dedication of researchers from industry, academia, and research institutes who have quietly led research and development and industrial sites in their respective positions, we have been able to lay the foundation for fostering national strategic technologies," adding, "I hope you will continue to be the driving force behind national strategic technologies that will open the future of Korea."
