Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on the 25th that it has established a foundation to provide welfare services, jobs, and care for people with disabilities all in one place.

On the 24th, the county held a completion ceremony for a sheltered workshop and a daytime care center for people with disabilities at the plaza of the workshop near the Hwangnyong River.

The sheltered workshop is a single-story building with a total floor area of 498.5 square meters and will produce wet wipes. It is equipped with a workroom, a rehabilitation counseling room, and other facilities.

Earlier, on December 11 last year, Jangseong County signed a consignment agreement with the Songgwang Foundation, a social welfare corporation, for the operation of the sheltered workshop, completing preparations for its operation. The consignment period is five years, until December 31, 2030.

The daytime care center for people with disabilities, located right next to the sheltered workshop at 16-22 Munhwa-ro, Jangseong-eup, is a facility that provides care and activity programs for people with disabilities. The Korean Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities has been entrusted with its operation.

The center has a total floor area of 499.25 square meters, which is similar in scale to the sheltered workshop. It consists of classrooms, counseling rooms, a kitchen, and other spaces.

In July 2022, with the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, Jangseong County included the construction of the sheltered workshop and the daytime care center for people with disabilities in its campaign pledges and has since actively pushed the project forward. The decision was based on the assessment that the region lacked stable vocational training spaces and professional care facilities for people with disabilities.

With the completion of these facilities, the level of welfare and care services for people with disabilities in the Jangseong area is expected to improve significantly.

Jangseong County Mayor Kim Hanjong said, "It is very meaningful that we have been able to establish a comprehensive welfare hub by fulfilling our pledges made to the residents," adding, "We will pursue even more meticulous welfare policies with the goal of making Jangseong a happy community free from discrimination."
