Ongoing Donations and Volunteer Work Across Gyeongju
Supporting the Marginalized and Putting Regional Mutual Growth into Practice
Acts of warm generosity toward marginalized neighbors are continuing across Gyeongju, creating a heartwarming atmosphere in the local community.
From around the Lunar New Year holiday through the end of February, financial institutions, companies, scholarship foundations, and volunteer organizations broadly took part in this sharing campaign, spreading a sense of solidarity within the local community.
Financial institutions, businesses, scholarship foundations, and volunteer groups within Gyeongju are continuing to extend compassionate support to disadvantaged neighbors. Flood of donations of daily necessities and cash for vulnerable groups
The actions of the financial sector and local pharmacies stand out first.
Donggyeongju Saemaeul Geumgo (Chairman Kim Youngha) delivered Onnuri gift certificates worth 1.6 million won to Gampo-eup on February 20, raised through its "Love Jomdori Campaign."
Bu-il Onnuri Pharmacy (Pharmacist Oh Seungyeop) also donated 38 boxes of instant noodles (worth about 1 million won) to Hwangoh-dong, supporting seniors living alone and low-income households.
Companies also participated enthusiastically.
The Hydrogen Convergence Department of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (Director Gong Younggon) visited the Seomyeon Administrative Welfare Center and delivered 60 boxes of instant noodles. In addition, the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Construction Technology Department (Director Lee Yonghee) used a "Love Fund" collected from a portion of employees' salaries to prepare 20 boxes of food kits (worth about 2.7 million won), which they personally delivered to vulnerable households in Yonggang-dong while checking in on their well-being.
Following this, the Gyeongju Branch of the Korea Disabled Transportation Culture Association (Secretary General Kim Hyungyu) donated 80 boxes of instant noodles to Wolseong-dong, continuing its annual tradition of sharing.
From nurturing talent to mutual growth with the region and even environmental cleanup, efforts continued for the future of the community.
The Bulguk Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Kim Wontae) held the 33rd scholarship award ceremony on February 21 and granted a total of 5 million won in scholarships to 10 local students.
Since its establishment in 1993, it has provided more than 200 million won in scholarships to 541 recipients, serving as a strong pillar for nurturing local talent.
Cooperation with neighboring local governments was also notable.
A total of 52 employees from the Agricultural Technology Centers of Gyeongju City and Yeongcheon City voluntarily participated in the Hometown Love Donation Program, mutually donating 2.6 million won each, pledging to promote friendship between the two cities and to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Volunteer activities were also carried out to create a pleasant village environment.
On February 21, about 20 members of the Hwangseong-dong Environmental Protection Council collected household waste in and around a public parking lot, putting community spirit into practice through regular environmental cleanup activities led by residents.
Gyeongju City officials said, "We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has taken part in sharing with unwavering hearts despite these difficult times," adding, "We will ensure that the donated goods and funds are carefully delivered to neighbors in desperate need and will do our best to make Gyeongju a warmer city."
