Former Democratic Party Leader Song Younggil to Serve as Fundraising Chair for Gwangju Dong-gu Mayor Preliminary Candidate Jin Seongi

Former Democratic Party of Korea leader Song Younggil has taken on the role of fundraising committee chair for Jin Seongi, a preliminary candidate for Dong-gu district mayor in Gwangju.

On the 25th, about 300 local residents, along with former party leader Song Younggil and preliminary candidate Jin Seongi, took part in the event titled "A New Start for Dong-gu: Together with Song Younggil," held at the campaign office of Jin Seongi, a preliminary candidate for Dong-gu mayor, in Hak-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju.

Preliminary candidate Jin Seongi is serving as a senior political affairs aide to former leader Song. Their relationship is known to have continued for more than 20 years. Jin oversaw the Gwangju region in Song's campaign for the Democratic Party Supreme Council member election in 2008. Jin was also by Song's side when he was staging a tent sit-in in front of the Prosecutors' Office.

Former leader Song said, "Even during the difficult period caused by the prosecution's investigation, Jin remained by my side at all times. Thanks to his bright and positive outlook, I was able to endure that time," adding, "I believe administration is the same. I hope he will lead well with a positive mindset."

Preliminary candidate Jin Seongi said, "I am relieved that, despite the unfair investigation targeting former leader Song, he persevered and was acquitted," and added, "I will do my utmost, together with former leader Song, to achieve the development of Dong-gu."
