Yeongcheon City Launches Full-Scale Mobile Agricultural Byproduct Crushing Support Team, Leading Wildfire Prevention and Carbon Neutrality

Project to Support 221 Farms Until Early April... Helping Elderly Farmers While Creating Jobs for Young People

Yeongcheon City (Mayor Choi Kimoon) has begun full-scale operation of its "Mobile Agricultural Byproduct Crushing Support Team" to prevent wildfires and reduce fine dust, launching a field-oriented agricultural policy.

Yeongcheon City announced on the 25th that it will promote a project to support the crushing of agricultural byproducts for local farms until early April.

This first-half project will be carried out for 221 farms (total area of 99.8 hectares) that completed applications in January.

The city plans to deploy four teams simultaneously by region and complete the crushing of agricultural byproducts, such as pruned branches from orchards, before the main farming season begins in earnest.

In particular, with young farmers participating in the operation of the support team, it is expected to generate jobs and provide practical assistance to elderly farmers who have difficulty operating agricultural machinery, thereby gaining strong support in the field.

To operate the Crushing Support Team, Yeongcheon City conducted "Safety in the Use of Agricultural Machinery and On-site Practical Training" on the 13th.

The training was conducted to prevent accidents caused by inexperienced operation of crushers and to strengthen on-site response capabilities by teaching equipment inspection methods and compliance with safety rules.

Choi Jaeyeol, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, emphasized, "Crushing and composting agricultural byproducts are key actions for wildfire prevention and carbon neutrality," adding, "We will continue to expand field-centered administration to improve convenience for farmers."

Yeongcheon City plans to operate a "second Crushing Support Team" in November to handle agricultural byproducts generated after the autumn harvest season.

Farmers who wish to participate can apply at their local eup, myeon, or dong Administrative Welfare Center according to the future schedule.
