Hyundai, Kia, BMW Recall 107,158 Vehicles Over Fire Risk

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 25th that manufacturing defects had been found in 37,690 vehicles across four models, including the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Ioniq converted electric vehicle, and the Elec City (including double-decker buses), and that the company would voluntarily take corrective action (recall).

It was determined that inadequate design of the battery management system software could fail to detect high-voltage battery problems in advance, creating a risk of fire. Corrective action will begin on the 27th. Similar measures will also be taken for 1,590 units of the Kia Niro Electric for the same reason.

BMW found that 67,878 vehicles across a total of 32 models, including the 520i, may be at risk of fire due to a short circuit in internal components of the starter motor. Corrective action will begin on the 4th of next month.
