The list of Excellent Certified Universities includes 39 institutions, including UST, out of 181 universities nationwide that passed this year's certification evaluation. In particular, UST has been named an Excellent Certified University for eight consecutive years since 2018, thereby demonstrating to the outside world its outstanding internationalization capacity as a global research-oriented university.
In the evaluation, UST ranked at the top in key assessment indicators such as the rate of illegal stay, dropout rate, and international students' language proficiency.
As a result of being selected as an Excellent Certified University, UST will benefit from streamlined screening procedures for issuing visas to international students. It will also receive administrative and financial incentives, including preferential selection as a host university for Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) students and priority participation in overseas Study in Korea fairs.
Three out of every ten enrolled students at UST are international students. As of the 2025 spring semester, among approximately 1,500 enrolled students, more than 430 are from 48 countries, including the United States, Germany, Belarus, Vietnam, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and Ghana.
To manage outstanding science and engineering graduate students gathered from around the world, UST has, over the past 20 years, continuously advanced its unique international student management system and provided close support throughout the entire academic journey of foreign students in Korea.
Recently, UST has been operating the U-LINK program, which matches outstanding international students with Korean companies, in order to foster excellent foreign students as R&D talents in Korea.
Among UST’s international alumni, many are known to have returned to their home countries and are now serving locally as university presidents, professors, and key researchers at national research institutes.
UST President Kang Daeim said, "We will support the stable settlement in Korea and successful degree programs of top global talents who come to UST so that they can grow into R&D professionals within the advanced national research institute school infrastructure of Korea," adding, "Furthermore, we will continue to advance the internationalization of education so that they can contribute to the development of Korean science and technology and serve as bridges between countries."
