100 MW Facility to Be Built in Hucheon General Industrial Complex... First-Phase Completion Targeted for 2027
Planned Expansion to a Total Floor Area of 70,000 Square Meters... Project to Be Carried Out in Phases
Hamyang-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do signed an investment agreement (MOU) worth 1.38 trillion won with Gyeongsangnam-do, Hamyang-gun, and Orid Korea for the construction of a 100 MW-scale AI data center at the "2026 Gyeongsangnam-do Advanced and Strategic Industries Investment Agreement Signing Ceremony" held at the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government.
Under this agreement, the first phase will see the construction of a data center with a total floor area of 30,807 square meters and a capacity of 40 MW within the Hucheon General Industrial Complex by 2027, and it is ultimately planned to be expanded to a total floor area of 71,799 square meters and a capacity of 100 MW. As a result, the creation of approximately 300 new jobs (based on three shifts) is expected.
Orid Korea, the investing company, purchased the land in 2021 and in 2024 changed the permitted industry for the Hucheon General Industrial Complex from steel casting and rolling (C24) to information service activities (J63). Subsequently, in 2025, Hamyang-gun and Korea Electric Power Corporation signed a power supply agreement for the Hucheon General Industrial Complex, and in February this year, the project passed the power system impact assessment of the Ministry of Climate and Energy Environment.
Design work has been underway since October 2025, and the project is being promoted with the goal of completing permits and approvals in the first half of this year and starting construction in the second half.
A representative of Orid Korea said, "We determined Hamyang-gun to be the optimal location after comprehensively considering favorable conditions for data center operations, including the stable power supply of the Hucheon General Industrial Complex and the low annual average temperature," adding, "We will actively strive not only to create quality jobs for the residents of Hamyang-gun but also to contribute to the local community through initiatives such as giving back to society."
A representative of Hamyang-gun said, "Our county has provided active administrative support over several years so that Orid Korea's investment can proceed smoothly," adding, "The attraction of this data center will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and attracting young people by creating quality jobs." The representative continued, "We will do our utmost to provide continuous administrative support for the successful implementation of the project."
