Gyeonggi Province is promoting a regulatory sandbox support project for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the province. A regulatory sandbox is a system that exempts or defers existing regulations for new products and services that utilize new technologies under certain conditions.
This project is divided into two areas: "Customized Consulting Support" and "Commercialization Support for Companies with Special Regulatory Exemptions."
Gyeonggi Province will provide systematic support for all stages, from applying for the regulatory sandbox to obtaining special regulatory exemptions and moving on to commercialization.
"Customized Consulting Support" is a program in which industry-specific experts provide close support to companies wishing to apply for the regulatory sandbox, assisting with application preparation and review of relevant laws and regulations. Participating companies will be recruited on a rolling basis until the budget is exhausted. Any SME located in Gyeonggi Province is eligible to apply.
"Commercialization Support for Companies with Special Regulatory Exemptions" is a project that supports practical costs for commercialization, such as demonstration costs and liability insurance premiums, for SMEs in Gyeonggi Province that have obtained special regulatory exemptions. A total of eight companies will be selected, and each company will receive support for up to 100 million won, covering 80% of the total project cost.
Companies wishing to participate in the project can apply through Gyeonggi Business Portal (www.egbiz.or.kr) until March 6, 2026.
Kim Baeksik, Head of the Regulatory Reform Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "The Gyeonggi-do Regulatory Sandbox Support Project is characterized by covering the entire cycle, from the regulatory sandbox application stage to commercialization after special exemptions are granted," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will continue to support new challenges by companies through regulatory improvement and foster a new industrial ecosystem."
