"Young Professionals and Site Managers Forums" Launched Ahead of World Heritage Committee Session
Declaration to Be Read at Plenary After Field Visits to Changdeokgung Palace and the Gaya Tumuli
The National Heritage Administration announced on the 25th that it will host international forums for next-generation talent and field practitioners ahead of the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which will be held in Busan in July.
The "World Heritage Young Professionals Forum" will select 30 young people from Korea and abroad and run for nine days from July 13. Participants will visit leading Korean heritage sites such as Changdeokgung Palace, Jongmyo Shrine, and Suwon Hwaseong Fortress to develop plans for cooperation with local communities.
The "World Heritage Site Managers Forum," which focuses on practical fieldwork, will carefully select 100 managers from Korea and abroad and run for eight days from July 16. Participants will visit management sites such as the rock carvings in the Bangocheon stream and the Gaya Tumuli to establish sustainable conservation strategies.
The two groups will come together on July 18 to share their on-site experiences and innovative ideas. After intensive discussions, they will draft a declaration and personally read it from the podium at the plenary session of the World Heritage Committee, delivering a powerful message to the international community.
Korean and foreign applicants who wish to participate must submit an online application form via the UNESCO World Heritage Centre website. Applications for the Young Professionals Forum will close on March 15, and applications for the Site Managers Forum will close on March 22. The final list of successful applicants will be announced at the end of April.
