Goyang Mayor Lee Donghwan to Hold "K-City Innovation" Book Concert on the 28th

Documenting Four Years of the 8th Popularly Elected Term and Goyang’s Future Vision

Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang, will hold a book concert for his book "K-City Innovation" at 3 p.m. on the 28th at the Goyang Flower Exhibition Hall in Ilsan Lake Park (595 Hosu-ro, Ilsandong-gu).

This book concert has been organized to share with citizens both the on-the-ground record of Mayor Lee’s four years of leading the Goyang city administration, and a future blueprint for Goyang as a city with global competitiveness.

Mayor Lee, who holds master’s and doctoral degrees in urban planning and urban engineering, is a traditional urban planner who has worked extensively in the field both in Korea and abroad, serving as Gyeonggi Province’s policy chief and as a general planner for new towns. He has defined Goyang not as a "copy-and-paste city" that can be found anywhere in the country, but as a "K-City" with a distinct identity.

The "K-City" advocated by Mayor Lee is a model that, first, carries out a "spatial repositioning" that shifts Goyang’s status from the outskirts of Seoul to a central axis of the Korean Peninsula’s economy, and second, completes "economic self-sufficiency" by fostering specialized industries such as K-content, AI, and bio, so that the city generates its own wealth and is reborn as a strategic gateway for a unified Korean economy.

When he took office as mayor in 2022, he characterized Goyang’s past, focused mainly on residential land development and housing construction, as "obesity without a skeleton," and devoted his efforts to rebuilding two pillars: the "economic axis" and the "landscape axis."

Through this book, Mayor Lee explains that if the time up to now has been about sketching the blueprint for Goyang’s great transformation, now is the time to fill it with substantial content. He is expected to express his strong determination by saying, "I will concentrate all my capabilities so that Goyang can move beyond being a bedroom community and take a leap forward as a truly self-sufficient city."

He also said, "I want to talk about a hopeful future together with the many people who have taken an interest in Goyang’s change and innovation," adding, "I ask for your continued interest and support for Goyang’s new leap forward."
