PPP Senior Lawmakers Say "Local Elections Difficult in Current Situation... Request Meeting with Jang Donghyuk"

Discussed During the National Assembly Plenary Session on the 24th

Senior lawmakers of the People Power Party have decided to request a meeting with party leader Jang Donghyuk. As Jang is effectively continuing on a "Yoon Again" line, they intend to convey their concerns regarding the upcoming local elections within the party.

On the afternoon of February 24, People Power Party lawmaker Lee Jongbae met with reporters after a meeting among senior lawmakers in the office of the chair of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, and said, "We plan to request a meeting between the senior lawmakers and the party leader."

The senior lawmakers' meeting that day was reportedly led by lawmakers Cho Kyungtae and Lee. Fourteen senior lawmakers attended, including Joo Hoeyoung, Park Dae-chul, Kwon Youngse, Kim Do-eup, Na Kyungwon, Ahn Cheolsoo, Yoon Sanghyun, Cho Bae-sook, and Han Kiho.

Regarding this meeting, Lee said, "Given the current situation, we shared the view that it would be very difficult to fight the upcoming local elections," adding, "We presented various opinions for winning the local elections and the public sentiment we heard in the provinces."

The senior lawmakers exchanged a wide range of views that day, including public sentiment heard in each constituency and their own opinions. Although they did not reach a unified agreement that a course correction is necessary, they plan to convey to Jang a variety of views, including the opinion that a break with the 'Yoon Again' camp is needed.

Lee said, "Senior lawmakers each have different opinions depending on their region and personal tendencies, so it is difficult to bring them together into a single view," and added, "If we convey these opinions to the leader, I think the way he accepts them will not be the same as the current situation."
