Chonnam National University Hospital Achieves 100% Pass Rate in 3rd National Specialist Pharmacist Qualification Examination All seven candidates from Chonnam National University Hospital passed the recently held 3rd National Specialist Pharmacist Qualification Examination for 2025. Chonnam National University Hospital announced on the 24th that all seven of its candidates passed the recently held "3rd National Specialist Pharmacist Qualification Examination in 2025."

Introduced as a national qualification system under the amended Pharmaceutical Affairs Act in 2023, the specialist pharmacist qualification examination is administered based on regulations of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. It is a system that confers a qualification in the name of the Minister of Health and Welfare to pharmacists who possess professional competence and capabilities in nine specialist fields: endocrinology, geriatrics, pediatrics, cardiovascular, infectious diseases, parenteral nutrition, organ transplantation, oncology, and critical care.

This examination was held on December 20, 2025, and is particularly meaningful in that it was the first exam taken by pharmacists who had completed a one-year training course at specialist pharmacist training institutions. In this exam, Chonnam National University Hospital produced a total of seven new specialist pharmacists in four areas: infectious diseases pharmacotherapy (Kim Boram and Kim Jeongjun), geriatric pharmacotherapy (Baek Seunghwa, Park Shinyoung, and Lim Jinseo), pediatric pharmacotherapy (Na Young), and oncology pharmacotherapy (Lee Miran). Among them, six passed the exam after completing the hospital's in-house training program, while pharmacist Lee Miran in the oncology field passed under special provisions as an existing holder of a private specialist pharmacist qualification.

Up to the 1st and 2nd examinations, only existing holders of private specialist pharmacist qualifications were eligible to sit for the national specialist pharmacist qualification examination. However, starting from this 3rd examination, pharmacists who have received training at nationally designated training institutions have begun to be fully included on the list of successful candidates. As a result, Chonnam National University Hospital now has a total of 11 specialist pharmacists, including the four it previously had (one in geriatrics, two in parenteral nutrition, and one in pediatrics).

Since 2025, Chonnam National University Hospital has been designated as a nationally designated specialist pharmacist training institution and is currently operating active training programs in four areas: infectious diseases, geriatrics, pediatrics, and parenteral nutrition. The hospital plans to actively consider expanding its training areas in the future to provide local residents with more specialized and safer medication services.

Chonnam National University Hospital Director Jeong Shin stated, "I applaud the pharmacists for their hard work in faithfully completing the training process and achieving a 100% pass rate despite their busy work," adding, "We will fulfill our role as a core tertiary care hospital by maximizing patient safety and treatment outcomes through the advanced pharmacotherapy services provided by specialist pharmacists."
