The Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission (BMCC) announced that on the 24th, Chairman Kim Jongcheol held a meeting in Seoul with Frederico de Siqueira Filho, Brazil's Minister of Communications, and Marcia Donner Abreu, Brazil's Ambassador to Korea, to discuss ways to expand cooperation in broadcasting technology and content exchange.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to share and cooperate on Korea's experience in commercializing ultra-high-definition (UHD) services in connection with Brazil's ongoing next-generation media platform project, "TV 3.0 Brazil." TV 3.0 is a project that offers higher transmission efficiency than existing digital TV, enabling UHD video transmission and interactive services that combine broadcasting and the internet. Both sides agreed that Korea's preemptive infrastructure operation cases can provide practical help in advancing Brazil's broadcasting environment. They also agreed to continue cooperation to ensure the stable local implementation of the technology developed by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of Korea, which was adopted last year as the transmission standard for Brazil's TV 3.0.

The two countries shared the view that high-quality media services and content are crucial for the successful establishment of next-generation media platforms, and agreed to flesh out cooperation measures such as expanding policy exchanges between the two countries alongside the build-out of technological infrastructure. They also decided to work together to help firmly establish the next-generation platforms. To generate tangible results, the two sides discussed concrete details, including the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on technology cooperation. They plan to jointly respond to rapidly changing global market conditions and promote sustainable growth and enhanced competitiveness in the broadcasting and media industries of both countries.

Chairman Kim said, "This meeting will serve as a new starting point for jointly leading the South American region by combining the two countries' innovation capabilities and future visions." Minister Siqueira also stated, "Both countries have strong and dynamic audiovisual industries," adding, "In terms of innovation, Korea can become a key partner for Brazil in the development of next-generation digital television."
