Regarding Independent Lawmaker Kim Byungki's Alleged Bribery
The police have launched a compulsory investigation into the virtual asset exchange "Bithumb," which is suspected of having given preferential treatment in hiring the second son of independent lawmaker Kim Byungki.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that from 9:40 a.m. on the 24th, it has been conducting a search and seizure of Bithumb's headquarters office and the Bithumb Financial Tower building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The police are investigating allegations that Representative Kim intervened in his second son's hiring at Bithumb. According to written statements from Kim's former aides, Kim showed interest in Bithumb and other coin-related companies in connection with his son's employment and is known to have attempted to solicit hiring from both Bithumb and Dunamu around September to November 2024.
The police plan to summon Representative Kim on the 26th as a suspect on charges of bribery for questioning.
A police official said, "We are conducting an investigation focusing on personnel records and related materials," adding, "We are examining matters related to the alleged employment solicitation."
