Gyeonggi Province will conduct a special investigation into illegally imported food and livestock products until March 6, 2026, in order to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) and to ensure that residents can purchase food with peace of mind.
The investigation will cover 240 locations, including businesses selling imported pork and processed pork products in regions where African Swine Fever has occurred (Anseong, Hwaseong, Pocheon, and Pyeongtaek) and in areas with a high concentration of foreign nationals (Ansan and Siheung).
The main inspection items are: (1) meat products such as sausages, ham, and jerky that are displayed or sold without proper import declarations; (2) meat products with unknown origin or without Korean labeling; and (3) violations of standards for displaying, storing, freezing, or refrigerating products past their expiration date.
Any illegal products identified will be seized, tested, and disposed of by the Northern Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory.
Kwon Moonju, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Unit, said, "Through this special investigation, we will prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) and create an environment in which residents can purchase food with peace of mind."
