Gangseo District Presents Hwarang Order of Military Merit to Family of Korean War Veteran

Medal Not Delivered to the Late Sergeant Kim Myungjin During the War
Returned to His Family After 72 Years

Gangseo District in Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyohun) announced on the 24th that it had presented the Hwarang Order of Military Merit on the 23rd to the bereaved family of the late Sergeant Kim Myungjin, a Korean War veteran of merit.

The district held a presentation ceremony that day in the mayor's office, attended by eight members of the bereaved family, including the late sergeant's children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. The event was organized as part of the "Project to Return Orders of Military Merit to Korean War Heroes" being promoted by the Ministry of National Defense and the Army.

The late Sergeant Kim Myungjin served in the Tank Assault Battalion of the 7th Division and distinguished himself as a squad leader in the Battle of the Yanggu area in Gangwon Province during the Korean War. Although the decision to award him the medal was made at the time, he was unable to receive the actual decoration due to the urgent wartime situation.

Jin Gyohun, Mayor of Gangseo District, said, "I bow my head in deep respect for the noble sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the freedom and peace of our country," adding, "We will do our utmost to honor the noble intentions of the war veterans and to enhance the respect shown to the families of those who served."

Since 2022, the district has presented medals to the families of a total of 18 local recipients of orders of military merit.
