This award was established to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the opening of the National Assembly Library, to encourage National Assembly members to make active use of its information services, and to promote the image of a “working National Assembly.” The National Assembly Library comprehensively evaluated usage performance by field over the course of 2025 and selected a total of eight awardees, including Assemblyman Shin.
Assemblyman Shin has long demonstrated an exceptional passion for reading and research, to the point that he is known within the National Assembly as the “king of reading.”
In particular, whenever he visits educational sites in his constituency of Sancheong, Hamyang, Geochang, and Hapcheon, he has stressed the importance of reading, saying, “The more rapidly the times change, the more we must keep books close at hand to gain fundamental wisdom,” and, “The future of our children and the competitiveness of our nation ultimately lie in the thinking skills and insight that are cultivated through books.”
In his acceptance speech, Assemblyman Shin said, “The National Assembly Library is both a repository where the wisdom of the legislature is gathered and a cradle of policy,” adding, “The knowledge and information I have gained through steady reading have become a solid foundation for my legislative work.” He went on to emphasize, “I will continue these efforts and carry out legislative activities that provide practical help to people’s livelihoods.”
