Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on February 23 that, starting March 3, express trains on Subway Line 1 will make additional stops at Deokgye Station. Transportation convenience for citizens using Deokgye Station is expected to improve significantly going forward.

Due to the influx of population into Yangju (Okjeong and Hoecheon) New Town, demand for Line 1 has increased sharply, but a lack of train services has continued to cause inconvenience for citizens. In particular, at Deokgye Station, demand for train use has more than doubled since residents began moving into Hoecheon New Town in 2022, yet the number of trains operating per day has remained at only 121. As a result, the headway during daytime hours has stretched to as long as 50 minutes, making it very difficult for citizens to use the trains.

To resolve this, Yangju City has been promoting “additional express train stops at Deokgye Station” as a key task. In cooperation with the local National Assembly member’s office, the city has continuously submitted proposals to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korail, explaining the necessity and justification for adding express stops at Deokgye Station. These proposals have cited trends in population growth, increased usage demand, citizens’ strong wishes, and the policy direction of “transportation first, move-in later” for residents of the new town.

Currently, express trains on Line 1 stop at 10 of the 19 stations between Kwangwoon University Station and Dongducheon Station. Within Yangju City, they have stopped only at Yangju Station and Deokjeong Station, while Deokgye Station has so far been a pass-through station with no stops.

With this newly confirmed additional stop, the number of train services at Deokgye Station on weekdays will increase by 15, from 121 to 136 per day. This is the same level as Deokjeong Station, and the headway during both the morning rush hour and daytime hours will be significantly reduced. The revised train timetable can be checked at Deokgye Station and on the Korail website.

An official from Yangju City said, “This additional express stop at Deokgye Station was arranged through consultations among the private sector, the administration, and the political sphere, and it is expected to improve transportation convenience for citizens using Deokgye Station,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to increase Line 1 services, including through-track additional trains and shuttle train operations.”
