Gangwon Province Completes Virtuous Talent Cycle
"From Youth to Corporate Teams"
First New Team in Six Years... Taking Aim at Victory with Local Talent
12th Workplace Sports Team of the Provincial Government
Composed Entirely of Athletes Affiliated with Gangwon
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jintae) held an official founding ceremony for the "Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Government Shooting Team" on the 23rd in the main conference hall of the annex building of the provincial government office.
This new team is the 12th workplace sports team since the establishment of the fencing team in 1987, and the first new team to be launched in six years since the establishment of the luge team in 2020.
As a result, the number of corporate shooting teams in the province has expanded to a total of three teams, including the provincial government, Jeongseon, and Goseong, further solidifying a vertically integrated system that connects youth teams to corporate teams.
It is highly significant in that it has created a foundation that prevents local talent from leaving for other cities and provinces, allowing them to continue their athletic careers in their hometown.
In addition, as all team members are associated with Gangwon, the team is presenting a growth model for regional sports, and athletes who have developed within Gangwon's sports infrastructure will now aim squarely at the target of victory under the name of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
The province has recently been maintaining its upward momentum in sports, achieving 6th place overall at the 106th National Sports Festival and winning the overall title for the first time in history at the National Winter Para Games.
Based on this momentum, the shooting team is expected to become a key driving force in "defending 6th place overall" at the 107th National Sports Festival.
Furthermore, Gangwon plans to enhance its standing in sports on the international stage at events such as the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Governor Kim Jintae stated, "With the launch of the shooting team, the final piece of the integration puzzle has been put into place," adding, "We will build a more systematic and competitive shooting program in Gangwon." He went on to emphasize, "We will continue to provide unwavering interest and support so that shooting does not fall behind any other sport."
