Gumi City to Invest 3 Billion Won to Operate 20 Buses on 2 Routes

Rapid Connections Between Residential Areas, Industrial Complexes, and Key Urban Hubs
Shorter Commute and School Travel Times

Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is introducing express buses that quickly connect the city’s key hubs, in a move to strengthen the competitiveness of its public transportation system.

The city plans to invest 3 billion won in project costs and operate 20 buses on 2 express routes in the second half of this year.

Following a significant increase in the number of trips on major trunk routes last year, the city has focused its policy this year on improving travel speed and efficiency.

The key feature of the new express buses is to minimize the number of stops compared with regular routes, thereby shortening travel time.

By stopping only at major hub stops, mainly along sections with high long-distance travel demand such as residential areas and industrial complexes, the city will enhance operational efficiency and greatly improve convenience for citizens commuting to work or school. It also plans to strengthen transfer connections with existing city bus routes, thereby improving both the accessibility and usability of the overall public transportation system.

Along with the introduction of express buses, the city will also work on improving public transportation infrastructure. This year, the city will invest a total of 2.44 billion won to upgrade the overall user environment, including bus shelters and information facilities.

The city will replace 50 old enclosed bus shelters with new models and install 10 new smart bus shelters, while repainting and refurbishing 60 shelters and installing lighting and benches at 100 locations to improve waiting conditions. In addition, it will improve the visibility and replace 70 Bus Information Terminals (BITs), and replace 30 city bus LED destination signs, thereby enhancing the accuracy and readability of information provided to passengers.

Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho said, “The introduction of express buses is a change aimed at reducing citizens’ travel time and improving overall transportation efficiency in the city,” adding, “We hope that route operations and infrastructure improvements will gradually enhance travel convenience for our citizens.”
