Ildong Bioscience Registers Functional Postbiotics as "Canada NHP"

Two Postbiotic Ingredients Including BBR and RHT

Ildong Bioscience, a health functional food affiliate of Ildong Pharmaceutical Group, announced on the 23rd that it has registered two of its postbiotic ingredients as Natural Health Products (NHP) with Health Canada, the country’s Ministry of Health.

The Health Canada NHP registration system strictly supervises safety and quality so that consumers can safely take health products. In order to distribute and sell health functional foods in the local market, companies must obtain a product number (NPN) through NHP registration.

The ingredients registered this time are two postbiotics independently developed by Ildong Bioscience: BBR (Bifidobacterium breve IDCC 4401 heat-treated culture powder) and RHT (Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus IDCC 3201 heat-treated culture powder).

The company emphasized that, in the case of BBR and RHT, each ingredient was granted specific functional claims during the NHP registration process: BBR was recognized as an ingredient that may help improve blood cholesterol levels and maintain cardiovascular health, and RHT was recognized as an adjunctive therapy ingredient for improving skin health and alleviating symptoms in children with atopic dermatitis.

Previously, Ildong Bioscience had used its proprietary inactivated cell technology to successfully develop these two ingredients as the first individually approved functional postbiotics by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea, respectively for improving blood cholesterol and for skin immunity.

An Ildong Bioscience representative stated, “In addition to the U.S. GRAS certification we had already obtained, the additional NHP registration in Canada has given us favorable conditions for entering the Americas market. We plan to actively pursue customized local business strategies for overseas market development, including Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) and Original Design Manufacturing (ODM), by leveraging functional materials that meet global market standards to introduce a wide range of ingredients and products.”
