Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, Goheung-gun has been pursuing a wide range of initiatives across various areas of county governance to realize its vision of "reaching a population of 100,000 in Goheung by 2030," underpinned by two main pillars: three future strategic industries, namely "space, drones, and smart farms," and three major transportation infrastructure projects, namely the Gwangju-Goheung Expressway, the Space Rail, and the four-lane expansion of the road between Goheung-eup and Bongrae.
At this reporting session, the county focused on core projects that will drive regional development, including the creation of a specialized agro-industrial complex for unmanned aerial agricultural technology, the establishment of a leading zone for innovation in smart fisheries, the development of a large-scale smart farm startup complex, and the construction of the Gwangju-Goheung Expressway and the Goheung Space Rail (Boseong Beolgyo Station-Goheung Station-Nokdong Station).
In addition, with the goal of ushering in an era of 10 million tourists to Goheung, the session discussed the creation of the Goheung Marine Art Land tourism complex, the development of a public golf course and tourism facilities by zone, the establishment of the Goheung Cultural Foundation, the development of specialized products based on Goheung Buncheong ware, and the hosting of the 2027 Jeollanam-do Sports Festival, covering the fields of culture, arts, and sports.
Through this reporting session, the county took a preemptive look at problems in project implementation and focused on accelerating progress by swiftly preparing countermeasures. By doing so, it plans to generate tangible project outcomes for residents at an early stage and to steadily push ahead with core projects for regional development without setbacks.
County Mayor Gong Youngmin said, "So far, thanks to the tireless efforts made together with more than 1,400 public officials for the change and development of Goheung-gun, we have been able to achieve many results," adding, "During the remaining period of the 8th popularly elected administration, we will strive to achieve as many of our project goals as possible, and we will pool all capacities of county governance to make Goheung a place where all residents can prosper together."
