Inaugural Ceremony Held for Group of 104 Ruling Party Lawmakers Seeking Withdrawal of Prosecution in President Lee's Case

Calling for Withdrawal of Prosecution and a Parliamentary Investigation

The lawmakers' group titled "Lawmakers' Meeting to Seek Withdrawal of Prosecution and a Parliamentary Investigation into President Lee Jaemyung's Case" (hereinafter Gongchimo), which includes 104 members of the Democratic Party, held its inaugural ceremony and resolution rally on the 23rd. Gongchimo is a group formed to correct fabricated indictments carried out by so-called political prosecutors under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.

On this morning at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, the group held its inaugural ceremony, condemned the fabricated indictment by the prosecution in President Lee's case, and urged the immediate withdrawal of the prosecution. It also announced that it will push for a parliamentary investigation to uncover the full extent of the fabricated indictment, and will complete institutional reforms, including prosecutorial reform, to eradicate the abuse of investigative and indictment powers.

The event proceeds in the following order: an introduction to the lawmakers' group, including its purpose and composition; greetings from the standing co-representative; free speeches by the National Assembly members belonging to the group; the reading of a resolution; and a picketing session. The placards read "Political Prosecutors OUT, Fabricated Indictments OUT" and "Immediate Push for Withdrawal of Prosecution, Immediate Push for Parliamentary Investigation."

Gongchimo stated, "We make it clear that the withdrawal of prosecution and a parliamentary investigation into President Lee's case are tasks of our time for realizing judicial justice and restoring constitutional order," adding, "We solemnly resolve to do everything in our power to scrap the political prosecutors' fabricated indictments, normalize what is abnormal, and build a country that the people can trust."

Gongchimo is led by Assemblyman Park Sungjoon as standing representative, with Assemblymen Kim Seungwon and Yoon Kunyoung as co-representatives; Assemblyman Lee Geonta is the secretary; and the steering committee members are Assemblymen Kim Namhee, Kim Sangwook, Kim Wooyoung, Mo Kyungjong, Song Jaebong, Lee Yongwoo, Lee Joohee, Jung Junho, and Chae Hyunil.
