HDC Chairman Chung Mong-gyu Publishes Management Memoir "Moments of Decision"

HDC Group announced on the 23rd that it will publish a corporate history book titled "Moments of Decision," written personally by Chairman Chung Mong-gyu, ahead of the group's 50th anniversary next month.

According to HDC Group, the book is a record that organizes, from Chairman Chung Mong-gyu's perspective, the decisive moments of challenge and global negotiation experienced by the founding generation of Hyundai, the process of gaining independence, and the moments of innovation and responsible management accumulated while building cities and infrastructure.

The company explained that this is both the corporate history and an industrial history of HDC Group, which unpacks, in an industrial-history context, how automobiles changed the way people move and how apartment buildings reshaped residential culture in Korean society during its growth phase after Liberation.

In the book, Chairman Chung also records the moments of choice he faced in his management activities spanning from Hyundai Motor to Hyundai Development Company and HDC Group, as well as the time spent bearing the consequences of those choices.

The book is largely divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 deals with the decisive moments of the founding generation of Hyundai and the early days of the automobile industry. Chapter 2 alternates between describing the advent of the apartment era, the history of urban development, and the corporate history of Hyundai Development Company. It also includes behind-the-scenes stories of Hyundai Development Company's development of the Gangnam area, the I-Park project, and the process of restoring trust after accidents and crises. Chapter 3 focuses on Chairman Chung's management insights, detailing responsibility, conviction, crisis response, brand strategy, and long-term management philosophy.

In the book, Chairman Chung states, "Business is not a pursuit of perfection but a process of seeking the optimal," adding, "Decisions are made in a moment, but responsibility is proven over time. And the attitude with which one endures that time ultimately determines a company's future competitiveness."

The book opened for pre-order sales at major online bookstores starting today.
