Kakao Mobility announced on the 23rd that it has signed a paid proof-of-concept (PoC) contract with Diriyah Company to provide integrated mobility solutions. This achievement comes seven months after the company signed a business agreement with Diriyah Company in May last year to jointly develop future mobility services.
The Diriyah Project is a large-scale complex infrastructure covering a 14-square-kilometer site, where most traffic and parking will take place underground. Kakao Mobility will provide its solutions as a "full package," ranging from converting local parking infrastructure into data to porting the Kakao T user interface and operating software. To this end, it will first build solutions for three zones that together can accommodate 5,000 vehicles.
In addition, to efficiently manage the movement of more than 60,000 vehicles, including in underground environments, it will also deploy its "Parking Full-Stack" technology. This consists of: (1) "AI-based space optimization technology," such as guiding users to nearby parking lots through demand forecasting and providing predictions of remaining spaces; (2) "indoor navigation," which offers route guidance even in large underground parking facilities where GPS signals cannot be received; and (3) an integrated platform capability that provides valet services, entry and exit, and payment within a single app.
Building on the PoC, Kakao Mobility plans to discuss expanding the application of its solutions to all mobility hubs across Diriyah.
Kakao Mobility CEO Ryu Geungseon said, "This contract is a bridgehead for Kakao Mobility to move beyond parking lot management and advance into future mobility technology in the global market," adding, "As data-driven, sophisticated parking platforms are expected to become a core foundation connecting autonomous vehicle charging and staging, as well as robot delivery, we will showcase our physical AI technology capabilities in the global market through a successful PoC."
