Realmeter's Regular Poll
President Lee up 5.5%p in Seoul and 9.6%p among people in their 40s
Democratic Party of Korea 48.6%, People Power Party 32.6%
President Lee Jaemyung's job approval rating has been on a gentle upward trend for four consecutive weeks, approaching the 60% level.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 23rd by the polling agency Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy News and conducted on February 19-20 using an automated response system via mobile phone with 1,000 respondents nationwide aged 18 or older; the margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, and the response rate is 4.2%), President Lee's job approval rating stood at 58.2%, up 1.7 percentage points from last week. The disapproval rating was 37.2%, down 1.7 percentage points.
By respondent group, notable increases were seen in the Seoul area, where the rating rose by 5.5 percentage points (from 51.0% to 56.5%), and among people in their 40s, where it rose by 9.6 percentage points (from 65.4% to 75.0%).
Realmeter explained, "The record-breaking stock market boom, including the KOSPI breaking through the 5,800 level, and the administration's determination to normalize the real estate market through measures such as tightening loan regulations on multiple-home owners appear to have driven the rise in approval ratings," adding, "In particular, people in their 40s, who form the backbone of economic activity, and residents of the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, who are sensitive to real estate issues, led the upward trend in support."
In terms of party support, the approval rating for the Democratic Party of Korea rose by 3.8 percentage points to 48.6%. Support for the People Power Party fell by 3.5 percentage points to 32.6%. The Cho Kuk Innovation Party recorded 3.3%, the Reform New Party 2.4%, and the Progressive Party 1.4%.
Realmeter analyzed, "For the Democratic Party of Korea, its anti-Yoon offensive, including pushing for a pardon-ban law following former President Yoon Sukyeol's sentence of life imprisonment, combined with President Lee Jaemyung's stance on normalizing the real estate market, created a synergy effect, leading to a sharp rebound in support, particularly in Seoul and among older age groups," adding, "For the People Power Party, internal strife has intensified amid the fallout from former President Yoon's guilty verdict and the controversy over party leader Jang Donghyuk's refusal to sever ties with Yoon."
