The "Implementation Guidelines for Academic Performance Management" are guidelines that are provided to schools before the start of every school year. They are intended to enhance the transparency and fairness of academic performance evaluation and management, and to improve the substance of teaching and assessment. To this end, they incorporate revisions to the "Guidelines for Writing and Managing School Life Records (Ministry of Education Directive No. 504)" and include standards specific to Gyeonggi Province.

A key feature of the latest guidelines is that, reflecting the outcome of the 2025 discussion on restructuring performance assessments, the proportion of performance assessment has been adjusted to 30%, and the proportion of essay-type assessments, which had been 40% in middle schools and 35% in high schools, has been changed to 30% for both levels.

While each school is to establish and operate subject-specific teaching and learning evaluation plans based on its autonomy, the revision intent of restoring the essence of education by making evaluations support the growth of every student has been fully reflected. In addition, in line with the revision of the Ministry of Education directive, the existing term "written test" has been changed to "regular exam" to bring it into alignment with performance assessment.

In particular, where artificial intelligence (AI) is used in performance assessments, the guidelines provide concrete directions on matters such as: the scope of use, instruction on how to indicate the process of AI use, guidance on precautions and implementation of prior training, and caution in entering and handling students' personal information, thereby including detailed measures to ensure fairness and reliability in evaluation.

Together with these implementation guidelines, the provincial office will also develop and distribute the resource "Understanding Secondary Student Assessment and Academic Performance Management." This material is intended to help teachers restore the essence of evaluation by reflecting diverse conditions and contexts and the characteristics of each subject.

The 25 education support offices in the province will use the implementation guidelines and the "Understanding" resource to guide each school on revising and operating its regulations on academic performance management. Based on this, schools will plan and implement their 2026 school curricula ahead of the new school year, including by holding school curriculum workshops.

Kim Youngsuk, Director of Secondary Education at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, said, "The 2026 Implementation Guidelines for Academic Performance Management are the result of reflecting the diverse opinions on secondary assessment that students, teachers, and parents put forward last year," adding, "They will serve as a compass that clearly indicates the direction of Gyeonggi education in the teaching and assessment carried out in schools."

Meanwhile, the Implementation Guidelines for Middle School Academic Performance Management, the Implementation Guidelines for High School Academic Performance Management, and the "Understanding Secondary Student Assessment and Academic Performance Management" resource will be available for download from February 24 on the provincial office's website under "News/Notices ? Integrated Data Room ? Secondary Education Division."
