Hwacheon County to Promote 2026 Border Area Facility Modernization Support Project
Facility Improvement Costs of up to 16 Million Won per Business
Hwacheon County in Gangwon Province will launch a support program in 2026 to modernize facilities for small business owners in the border area.
The county has been accepting applications since the 23rd from businesses in the sanitation sector and, separately, from businesses in other small business sectors.
First, eligible sanitation-sector businesses are lodging businesses, barbershops and beauty salons, food service businesses, and public bath businesses whose current representative is registered as a resident of Hwacheon County and has been operating the business for at least one year.
Businesses engaged in luxury, entertainment, pleasure, or speculative industries are excluded from eligibility.
Eligible small business owners outside the sanitation sector are those engaged in sports and cultural services, businesses targeting military personnel, convenience stores and supermarkets, and service and wholesale and retail businesses, where the owner has been registered as a resident of Hwacheon for at least one year and has been operating at the same location for at least one year.
Sanitation-sector businesses and other small business establishments selected for support can receive up to 16 million won, which is a maximum of 80% of the total project cost, within a total project cost limit of 20 million won.
The facility modernization support project for border areas is, in principle, limited to indoor facility improvements and does not support equipment purchase or replacement alone.
At least 70% of the total project cost must be allocated to indoor facility improvements such as wallpapering or painting, flooring, electrical and lighting work, as well as maintenance and replacement of indoor signs and display stands.
Replacement of aging equipment, functional improvements, safety belts for the elderly and infirm, and anti-illegal filming equipment may use less than 30% of the project cost.
The purchase of asset-type items such as household refrigerators, air conditioners, TVs, coffee machines, electronic devices such as computers, and simple consumable goods is restricted.
Details on eligibility and qualification requirements for support in the sanitation and small business sectors can be found in the announcement on the county office website.
Hwacheon County Governor Choi Moonsun said, "The border area facility modernization support project will be of great help to businesses that have not been able to even consider improving their facilities due to cost burdens."
