SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation to Present Opera "Roberto Devereux"

Sponsored artists perform with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra
Beyond simple sponsorship, contributing to the broader reach of opera
"Spreading the value of sharing in culture and the arts"

The SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation announced on the 23rd that it will hold the "2026 SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation Concert" at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center on March 6.

This concert is a regular performance of the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation, which was established to carry on the will of the late SeAH Group Chairman Lee Woon Hyung, who cherished and supported opera during his lifetime. Since 2015, the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation has carefully selected and presented works so that more people can love and enjoy opera, contributing each year to spreading the social value of culture and the arts through opera performances.

At the "2026 SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation Concert," the opera "Roberto Devereux," one of Gaetano Donizetti's (G. Donizetti) trilogy of queens that depicts the final days of Elizabeth I, will be staged. Premiered in 1837 at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, this work is regarded as one of Donizetti's representative "Tudor operas," portraying power, love, and human anguish against the backdrop of the last years of Elizabeth I, and is evaluated as a masterpiece that showcases the quintessence of bel canto opera.

This performance will feature direction by director Pyo Hyunjin, renowned for refined and sophisticated staging, and under the baton of David Yi, artistic director of the Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the Nohy Opera Chorus participating to present a highly accomplished production.

In particular, this production carries added significance in that many of the lead roles will be performed by talents discovered and supported through the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation's opera talent support program, making it a moment when SeAH's long-term philosophy of arts patronage bears fruit. Conductor David Yi, soprano Choi Jieun, tenor Kim Beomjin, and baritone Choi Insik are artists who, with the support of the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation as a springboard, are now prizewinners in international competitions and active in leading roles at major European theaters. As world-class artists come together in a single work, this performance is expected to go beyond a simple concert and serve as an opportunity to demonstrate the achievements of the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation's sincere mecenat activities.

A representative of the SeAH Woon Hyung Lee Foundation said, "This performance will be a meaningful stage where the talents discovered and supported by the foundation can fully demonstrate their capabilities and convey to the audience the beauty and dramatic narrative of Donizetti's opera," adding, "We hope that this performance, which encompasses love and power, conflict and reconciliation, will reach everyone living in these uncertain times with sincerity and deep emotion."
