“Dongjak Star Park” Operated for Four Days During Lunar New Year Holiday
Attracts 18,000 Visitors and Generates 30 Million Won in Sales
The Dongjak District Office in Seoul (Mayor Park Ilha) announced on the 23rd that it had transformed the first basement level of the district office building into an indoor theme park called "Dongjak Star Park" for the recent Lunar New Year holiday, and that a total of 18,204 people visited over four days, receiving an enthusiastic response.
On the 15th, during the Lunar New Year holiday, residents are enjoying a balloon performance held at Dongjak Seutapakeu Seutaseuteiji. Provided by Dongjak-gu.
Except for Lunar New Year’s Day itself, the district operated the first basement level of the building for four days of the holiday, dividing it into the Star Stage, Star Play Zone, Star Food Zone, and Star Coexistence Zone. Visitors took part in traditional games such as Yutnori and Jegichagi, as well as hands-on programs like rice cake pounding and making Dalgona, and also enjoyed cultural performances including bubble shows and magic shows. Three hundred people participated in the pre-booked “Dubai Chewy Cookie Making” open class.
The number of visitors averaged 4,551 per day, far exceeding the previous Chuseok holiday, when the daily average was 2,508 and the total was 15,052. Eight local small business owners, including Pureun Fruit and Bangbae Jungang Rice Cake Shop, took part in the Star Food Zone and sold holiday foods such as fruit, rice cakes, and Korean pancakes, achieving sales of 29.56 million won, nearly three times higher than last year’s 10.39 million won.
Before opening, Dongjak District purchased liability insurance and deployed safety personnel, allowing the programs to run throughout the holiday without any accidents. The Dongjak Star Park Star Play Zone will continue to operate even after the Lunar New Year holiday, and the district plans to review additional revitalization measures such as regular disinfection of the sand playground and development of Atrium Hall programs.
Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak District, said, "We will continue to prepare a variety of programs so that residents can feel the district office is a more familiar space and can visit it naturally."
