Geochang Forest Leisure Sports Park Selected as a Small but Strong Potential Tourist Destination... Expected to Emerge as a Stay-Type Tourism Hub

Tourism competitiveness expected to grow through marketing and consulting support

Hidden deep in the forests of Geochang, South Gyeongsang Province, the activity paradise "Geochang Forest Leisure Sports Park" is ready to leap forward as one of Korea's leading tourist destinations.

Geochang-gun announced that Geochang Forest Leisure Sports Park has been finally selected for the "2026 Small but Strong Potential Tourist Destination Discovery and Development Project" organized by the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) branch of the Korea Tourism Organization. It was the only site chosen in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region in this public contest, earning recognition for its overwhelming growth potential.

The Korea Tourism Organization's "Small but Strong Potential Tourist Destination Development Project" aims to discover regional tourist attractions with high growth potential and nurture them into promising destinations through systematic marketing and consulting. Geochang-gun was selected for the contest in 2022 with "Anti-Aging Healing Land" and in 2023 with "Geochang Iris Garden," and has once again been chosen, proving its competitiveness as a tourism city.

The selected site, Geochang Forest Leisure Sports Park, is located at elevations above 750 meters around the Baekdudaegan mountain range in the Goje-myeon area. Against a backdrop of pristine forests, it offers a place where visitors can enjoy both thrilling leisure sports and tranquil relaxation.

In particular, it features dynamic tree-top courses, a zip coaster, and rope adventures that make use of the mountainous terrain; forest cabins, a forest recreation center, and a campground where visitors can spend a night under star-filled skies in the woods; and eco-adventure programs and the Right Hand Observatory tailored for family visitors. Thanks to these distinctive attractions, it is regarded as an ideal destination that will captivate everyone from Millennials & Gen Z to family tourists.

Using this project as a starting signal, Geochang-gun plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bu-Ul-Gyeong branch of the Korea Tourism Organization and launch full-scale marketing efforts.

Ok Jinsuk, head of the Tourism Promotion Division, said, "Geochang Forest Leisure Sports Park is where Geochang's pristine nature meets dynamic energy," adding, "Building on this selection, we will develop it into an attractive tourist hotspot and make it a key driving force for the successful '2026 Visit Geochang Year'."
