The Daejeon Fire Headquarters reported that among 1,949 dispatches last year, traffic accidents accounted for the largest share with 1,349 cases (70%), followed by 405 cases of illness (21%) and 195 cases (9%) of other accidents and injuries.

Currently, Daejeon Fire Service operates pumpbulances with 332 firefighting personnel and 27 vehicles deployed across 27 119 Safety Centers at 5 fire stations.

The pumpbulance system of the Daejeon Fire Headquarters is a multi-dispatch system in which a fire engine and an ambulance are dispatched simultaneously. It is an on-site, response-focused system that provides rapid initial emergency care when a severe emergency patient occurs and ensures the safety of paramedics at hazardous scenes such as traffic accidents.

In 2025, the total number of pumpbulance dispatches was 1,949, with an average of 72.2 dispatches per unit. This shows that while traffic accident scenes remain the core of pumpbulance operations, the scope of response is expanding to illnesses and various other emergency situations.

Daejeon Fire Service is stably operating the multi-dispatch system by actively linking and dispatching pumpbulances when severe or high-risk situations are anticipated at the 119 call-taking stage. In addition, it is continuously expanding training to strengthen the expertise of personnel and steadily assigning certified emergency medical technicians.

Kim Hwasik, Head of the Rescue and Emergency Medical Division at the Daejeon Fire Headquarters, said, "The pumpbulance is a core response system that minimizes gaps in initial emergency care at disaster scenes while also ensuring the safety of paramedics," adding, "By operating it year-round on a constant basis, we will respond even more swiftly to evolving emergency situations."
