Proposing Policy Alternatives... A Youth-Led Public Deliberation Body
From Ages 19 to 39... Extra Points for Vulnerable Youth
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will publicly recruit 150 young committee members for the "1st Youth Coexistence and Empathy Committee" from February 23 to March 13, in order to seek ways to bridge the gender perception gap among younger generations.
The Youth Coexistence and Empathy Committee is a youth-led public deliberation body that discovers gender equality policy agendas that both men and women can relate to, and directly proposes policy alternatives through deliberation and discussion. It will be operated in three subcommittees: (1) Recruitment and Workplace, (2) Society and Culture, and (3) Safety and Health.
The committee will consist of a total of 150 young members, with 50 assigned to each subcommittee. Of these, 135 will serve as participating members and 15 as executive members. Executive members will oversee the operation of each subcommittee alongside the deliberation activities and will also play a role in facilitating cooperation between subcommittees. Applicants interested in promotional activities can join the "Promotion Planning Group" and take part in planning the promotion of the public debate and deliberation process.
Any young person between the ages of 19 and 39 (born between January 1, 1986 and December 31, 2007), regardless of region, is eligible to apply. Applicants from vulnerable groups will receive additional points during the screening process.
Applications are accepted via Naver Form, and applicants must submit an application form, a copy of their resident registration, and a score of at least 70 points on a quiz designed to assess understanding of the committee’s activities. Final selection will take into comprehensive account gender, region, age, occupation, and other factors, and executive members will be chosen through a separate interview.
Final successful candidates will be notified individually on March 23. Participating youth will receive a certificate of activity, and a certain amount of activity allowance will be provided depending on the scope of their activities. Executive members will receive a letter of appointment in the name of the minister, and outstanding young committee members will be presented with a ministerial commendation at the end of the year.
Starting with an inaugural ceremony scheduled for March 28, the committee will, through subcommittee-level deliberation and discussion, identify policy agendas for gender balance and develop concrete policy alternatives through the end of the year. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to actively review these proposals in cooperation with relevant ministries so that the policies suggested by young people can be translated into actual government policy.
Won Minkyung, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, said, "This committee will provide young people with experiences of coexistence and empathy, and we will spare no effort in supporting them so that they can work together to identify policy tasks for achieving gender balance."
