"Seongdong Saengmyeong Anjeon Baeumteo" Marks 10th Anniversary...Cumulative Trainees Surpass 80,000

First in Korea to Introduce VR Survival Training
XR Immersive Fire Safety Experience This Year

Seongdong Saengmyeong Anjeon Baeumteo (6, Majo-ro 11-gil), Seongdong-gu's resident safety education hub in Seoul (District Mayor Jung Wonoh), is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its opening this year. Since it opened in 2015, it has trained a cumulative total of 81,230 participants, establishing itself as a leading case in fostering a culture of everyday safety.

The center has consistently trained more than 8,000 participants each year. Last year alone, a total of 15,375 people completed its programs, marking an all-time record, and 5,382 people took part in its outreach safety education programs, also reaching a new high. In 2024, it was officially designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as a "Specialized Institution for Children's Safety Education" and as a "Civil Defense Education-Accredited Safety Experience Center," recognizing the professionalism of its education programs.

Its innovation in integrating cutting-edge technologies is also drawing attention. In 2024, it became the first in the country to introduce "VR Flood Escape Survival Training," and last year it launched "VR Crowd Crisis Management Training," making it a benchmarking model for cities in Korea and abroad. In the same year, it opened its official website (sdsafe.co.kr) and began full-scale operation of smart administrative services, including integrated online reservations, mobile issuance of completion certificates, and real-time online education.

The center is also actively promoting outreach safety experiences for vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, who have difficulty visiting in person. In 2020, it became the first in the country to introduce a mobile experience vehicle, distribute single-use experience kits, and provide non-face-to-face real-time education, thereby minimizing educational gaps even during the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, a total of 12,490 people have completed the outreach safety education program.

Located a three-minute walk from Wangsimni Station, the center also contributes to realizing the "15-Minute City Seongdong" concept. This year, it plans to introduce XR (extended reality)-based immersive fire safety training, offering immersive experiences set in real-life spaces such as subway stations and shopping malls in Seongdong-gu.

Any district resident aged 6 or older can participate, and this year's programs will run from March 3 to December 31, 2026. First-come, first-served reservations will be accepted on the website (sdsafe.co.kr) starting at 10:00 a.m. on February 23, 2026.

Seongdong District Mayor Jung Wonoh said, "The 10-year history of Seongdong Saengmyeong Anjeon Baeumteo has been a precious promise and a decade of action toward 'Safety in Seongdong 365 Days a Year,'" adding, "We will do our utmost to make Seongdong a city where residents can experience safety first in their daily lives through innovative education that keeps pace with changing times and environments."
