Saving Island Heritage at Risk of Disappearing... Joint Survey Launched by Maritime Heritage Institute and Goheung-gun

The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage and Goheung-gun in Jeollanam-do will sign a work agreement at Goheung County Office on the 20th. They will systematically investigate and study maritime heritage in island regions that are facing extinction due to climate change and population decline.

The first survey areas will be Deuknyangdo and Sisan-do and their surroundings. They will carry out a comprehensive survey that encompasses tangible heritage such as archaeology, history, folklore, and traditional architecture; intangible heritage such as livelihoods and everyday life history; and natural heritage such as geology. The institute will oversee survey planning and academic research, while Goheung-gun will provide on-site administrative support and establish a system for cooperation with local residents.

The survey results will be used as basic data for establishing policies on preservation, management, and regional revitalization. They also plan to jointly carry out projects such as publishing reports, producing video records, and organizing academic events, exhibitions, and educational programs.
