Driving Up the Quality of Kindergarten Meal Services

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has rolled up its sleeves to strengthen hygiene, safety, and nutrition management for kindergarten meals.

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 19th that it recently held a briefing session on the "2026 Basic Plan for School Meals at Private Kindergartens" for private kindergarten officials at the Suncheonman Ecological and Cultural Education Center.

This briefing session was organized to further enhance the expertise of systematic meal services at private kindergartens, now in the fifth year since the School Meals Act was applied to kindergartens, and to create a safety-centered meal environment that puts children's health first.

In particular, for small private kindergartens suffering from staff shortages, the Provincial Office of Education is dispatching itinerant nutrition teachers affiliated with local offices of education to help establish on-site hygiene and nutrition management systems. In addition, it plans to focus its administrative capacity on raising the overall quality of meal services by strengthening dietary education in early childhood.

Previously, in 2024 the Provincial Office of Education published the "Kindergarten Meal Nutrition Management Guidebook," and in 2025 it completed the development of "Early Childhood Nutrition and Dietary Education Teaching Aids and Workbook." Based on these, it has been continuously providing customized meal consulting by visiting schools in person. Through play-centered dietary education, the office aims to provide children with balanced nutrition and help them develop healthy eating habits.

At the briefing session, in-depth discussions were held on overall directions for meal operations, including: meal service operation management, strengthening nutrition management, guidance on nutrition and dietary habits, and hygiene and safety management. Above all, the training program titled "Kindergarten Meal Hygiene Management Through Case Studies," which was designed to be highly applicable in the field, clearly presented practice-oriented management measures and received an enthusiastic response from participants.

Park Jaehyun, Head of the Physical Education and Health Division, said, "We expect this briefing session to provide practical help in ensuring stable meal operations at the front lines of education," adding, "Based on the basic plan for meals at private kindergartens, we will actively communicate with the educational field and do our best to provide safe and high-quality meals."
