Targeted the gambling den they discovered while making deliveries...
Sentenced to prison terms ranging from 2 years to 7 years and 6 months
A group that tried to raid an illegal gambling den they had learned about while working as delivery workers and steal the betting money has been sentenced to prison.
The 11th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court, presided over by Senior Judge Park Woo-geun, announced on February 17, 2026, that it had sentenced A (24), who was indicted on charges including attempted aggravated robbery, to 7 years and 6 months in prison.
The court also sentenced B (18) to a maximum of 3 years and a minimum of 2 years in prison, and C (32) to 3 years and 6 months in prison.
A and the others were put on trial on charges of entering a commercial building in Daejeon at around 11:50 p.m. on May 16 last year, threatening four people who were playing Go-Stop with a weapon, and attempting to steal the betting money.
In the process, they also shouted, "We are police officers here for a raid," to intimidate the victims.
When real police officers arrived at the scene in response to a report, they immediately fled and did not actually succeed in stealing the gambling money.
They then moved to another location they had scouted in advance, repeatedly assaulted a person inside and injured them, and attempted to steal money by threatening them with a weapon.
It was found that A, who learned the location of the gambling den while doing delivery work, proposed the crime to B, a younger acquaintance from the neighborhood, and C, an acquaintance.
A and B directly went inside and threatened the victims, while C mainly acted as a lookout.
The court stated, "The defendants committed a planned robbery late at night, carrying a weapon and acting as a group, so the level of blame they deserve is very high," and added, "The violent tendencies of A, who assaulted and threatened the victims, are extremely concerning, and the nature of the crime is very poor."
The court went on to say, "It appears that B and C did not take the lead in the crime, and we have taken into account the fact that they reached settlements with some of the victims and the defendants' ages."
