Blood Alcohol Level Exceeding License Revocation Threshold
On the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday, a man in his 50s who caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence and then fled the scene was caught by the police.
Daejeon Yuseong Police Station announced on the 15th that it has booked a man in his 50s, referred to as Mr. A, on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and failure to take measures after an accident), and is investigating him.
Mr. A is suspected of driving under the influence around 12:00 a.m. the previous day on a road in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, crashing into a parked car and then fleeing, and later ignoring the police order to stop when officers began pursuing him.
Responding to a citizen report stating, "I am following a hit-and-run vehicle," the police engaged in a pursuit of about 14 km and arrested Mr. A in the act at around 12:16 a.m. near Bang-dong.
In an attempt to evade the citizen and the police, Mr. A drove dangerously back and forth between Daejeon and Gongju in South Chungcheong Province, and it was found that he continued to flee even after crashing once into a guardrail and once into a car in front of him.
A police official stated, "At the time, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration exceeded the level for license revocation," adding, "We are investigating Mr. A to determine the exact circumstances and any additional offenses."
