Changnyeong County Confirms Additional African Swine Fever Case at Farm Within Quarantine Zone

Emergency Quarantine Measures Implemented: Initial Response Team Deployed,
Full Restriction on Farm Access and All-Out Efforts to Contain the Spread

Changnyeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 15th that, following the confirmation of African swine fever (ASF) at a pig farm in Daehap-myeon on February 4, it has confirmed an additional ASF case at a pig farm located in Changnyeong-eup, within the quarantine zone of the initially affected farm, on February 14, and is currently making every effort to prevent further spread.

At this farm, ASF antigens were detected in both the first and second environmental sample tests conducted on February 13, and a detailed examination ultimately confirmed a positive result.

In response, the county has mobilized an initial quarantine team as an emergency disease control measure to completely restrict access to the farm, and is concentrating all efforts on initial quarantine by strengthening the operation of base disinfection facilities and conducting emergency disinfection.

In addition, all pigs (about 1,900 head) being raised at the affected farm will be culled and buried in accordance with the African Swine Fever Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and after the burial is completed, the county plans to thoroughly carry out follow-up quarantine measures such as removing residual materials inside the pig houses and conducting cleaning and disinfection.

The county is further strengthening preventive quarantine by imposing movement restrictions, conducting simultaneous disinfection, clinical examinations, and detailed tests on pig farms (14 farms within a 10 km radius) in the quarantine zone.

The county has mobilized the joint quarantine team and all available disinfection vehicles to carry out intensive disinfection of farm access roads, major roads, and livestock vehicle routes, and plans to strictly control the movement of pigs, vehicles, and personnel until quarantine measures are lifted, focusing all administrative capacity on preventing any further spread.

An official from Changnyeong County said, "In response to the additional case, we are promptly carrying out emergency culling and detailed examinations," and urged, "Pig farmers must immediately report any deaths or abnormal symptoms, and must strictly enforce access control to farms and disinfection procedures."
