The Wando Arboretum of the Jeollanam-do Forest Research Institute announced that, for the Lunar New Year holiday, it will open certain areas free of charge from February 15 to 18 so that returning visitors to their hometowns and tourists can use the arboretum comfortably.

The free opening is intended to provide a place for rest in nature to visitors coming to Wando both to visit ancestral graves and to go sightseeing, and to widely promote the beautiful warm-temperate forest of Wando Arboretum.

The main facilities to be opened are 31 specialized gardens (areas where plants are collected, exhibited, and conserved according to their morphological and taxonomic characteristics and by species), excluding the Forest Museum, as well as the subtropical greenhouse, walking trails, hiking trails, and other indoor and outdoor viewing facilities.

Wando Arboretum is the largest warm-temperate forest arboretum in Korea, spanning 233 hectares. It is home to 814 species of native plants, including camellias and red oak, and even in winter it boasts evergreen forest resources, offering visitors the chance to enjoy superb natural scenery where green forests and the sea come together.

Ahn Byeongseok, Director of Wando Arboretum, said, "I hope that returning visitors and tourists who come back to their hometown will spend a relaxing time with their families at Wando Arboretum and find healing," adding, "If everyone follows the safety rules, their holiday outing will be even more enjoyable and meaningful."
