Adopted Three Pet Dogs from Public Institution
Case Revealed Following Complaint by Animal Welfare Group
The police have launched an investigation into a man in his 70s who is suspected of adopting pet dogs from a public institution under the pretense of keeping them as companion animals and then eating them together with acquaintances.
On the 13th, the Iksan Police Station in North Jeolla Province stated that it is investigating Mr. A, a man in his 70s, on suspicion of violating the Animal Protection Act. Mr. A is accused of adopting three pet dogs from a public institution located in Hwangdeung-myeon, Iksan-si, North Jeolla Province, and slaughtering and eating them on the very day of the adoption.
The case came to light after an animal welfare organization posted on social media (SNS) a message to the effect that "three dogs that had been living at a public institution in Iksan were slaughtered by the adopter."
After learning of the incident, the Iksan city government filed a complaint with the police on the 10th, and the animal welfare organization is also reported to have submitted a separate complaint.
The complaint is reported to state that Mr. A approached and adopted the dogs as if he were going to keep them as pets, then strangled them with a snare during the process of moving them and ate them as food together with three acquaintances.
