Son Kyungsik, chairman of the Korea Employers Federation (KEF), has succeeded in being reappointed for a fifth consecutive term.

According to the business community on the 13th, the Korea Employers Federation held a chairpersons' meeting on the 11th and unanimously agreed to recommend Chairman Son for another term. The federation plans to submit the reappointment proposal to the regular board meeting and general assembly scheduled for the 24th.

Chairman Son was first appointed chairman of the Korea Employers Federation in March 2018 for a two-year term. If his fifth consecutive term is confirmed at this general assembly, he will lead the federation for 10 years, through 2028. Initially, Son indicated at this meeting that he intended to decline another term, but companies are reported to have strongly argued that his reappointment is necessary in order to respond actively to a host of pressing issues, including the revised Articles 2 and 3 of the Trade Union Act (the so-called Yellow Envelope Act), which are set to take effect next month.

At the Korea CEO Forum held on the 5th, Chairman Son pointed out that the implementation of the Yellow Envelope Act, discussions on extending the retirement age, and the reform of working hours could cause disruption at industrial worksites.
