"Check Your Car Battery Before Lunar New Year Homebound and Return Trips"

During the Lunar New Year holiday, long-distance driving, traffic congestion, and repeated stopping and restarting can put a heavy load on a vehicle's electrical system. In particular, when the use of electrical components such as the heater, heated seats, wipers, and navigation system increases, battery consumption can rise, making it necessary to inspect the battery before departure.

Hankook & Company suggested a battery management checklist that drivers can go through in about 10 minutes before setting off on their Lunar New Year homebound and return journeys, focusing on three items: the engine start condition, whether electrical devices are operating properly, and checking the battery manufacturing date.

If the engine cranks more weakly than usual when starting, or if warning lights on the instrument panel come on, it is necessary to check for possible battery performance degradation. It is also advisable to check the battery condition if there are abnormalities in the operation of electrical components, such as unstable headlamp brightness or a noticeably slower power window speed.

The battery is a consumable component, and its performance varies depending on usage period and driving environment. As the likelihood of performance degradation increases after about 2 to 3 years of use, it is recommended to check the manufacturing date and have the battery inspected if abnormal signs occur repeatedly.
