Jiji Press reported on February 12, citing Japanese government officials, that the governments of South Korea and Japan are discussing a plan for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to visit South Korea in March for a summit meeting with President Lee Jaemyung.

According to the report, Prime Minister Takaichi is coordinating a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., on March 19, and a plan is being discussed for her to visit South Korea in line with this schedule. In addition to Seoul, Andong in North Gyeongsang Province, President Lee's hometown, has been mentioned as a potential destination.

However, the schedule may be flexible depending on the situation in the Japanese Diet. Jiji Press reported that deliberations on the fiscal 2026 budget, which will begin at the Diet session convening on the 18th, are expected to continue into March, and that South Korea and Japan are coordinating the detailed schedule in consideration of this.
