First Stage Challenge in 27 and 20 Years Since Debut
Skilled Actors Including Yang Jong-uk and Jo Young-kyu Join the Cast
Actors Lee Seo-jin and Go A-sung, who have long enjoyed public affection across television and film, are taking on their first-ever theater roles.
LG Arts Center announced on the 12th that it has cast Lee Seo-jin and Go A-sung in the leading roles of the play "Uncle Vanya," which will be staged at the Signature Hall from May 7 to 31. The work is one of the four major full-length plays by the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov. It delicately captures the human psyche and the absurdity of life that surface when ordinary daily routines go off track.
In his 27th year since debut, Lee Seo-jin will make his first appearance on the theater stage as Vanya, a complex character crushed by the boredom and futility of life, yet ultimately unable to let go of his compassion and devotion toward his family. Go A-sung, who debuted in the film "The Host" and marks her 20th anniversary this year, will connect with audiences as Sonya, a character who quietly protects her home ground while gazing toward the future.
The supporting cast is also solid. Yang Jong-uk of the creative group "Yangson Project," Kim Soo-hyun from the play "Richard II," and Jo Young-kyu, winner of the Best Acting Award at the 61st Dong-A Theatre Awards, join to anchor the production. In addition, Daehangno-based veteran actors Lee Hwa-jung, Min Yoon-jae, and Byun Yoon-jung will also take part.
