This roundtable was organized to link the Office of Education's Neulbom School operations with local childcare and women's employment policies, to directly hear about the challenges and areas for improvement in on-site childcare that parents and residents of the province actually experience, and to explore effective policy directions.

Starting in the 2026 school year, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education plans to expand the Gangwon-style Neulbom School, continue customized programs for 1st and 2nd graders in elementary school, and provide after-school program vouchers worth 500,000 won per student per year for 3rd graders. Through this, the office expects to help reduce parents' burdens related to childcare and private education, expand student participation, and, by ensuring the stable operation of the Gangwon-style Neulbom School, contribute to minimizing childcare gaps and strengthening the public nature of education.

In addition, the Office of Education plans to strengthen linkages with local childcare facilities such as community child centers and All Together Care Centers, and to build a mutually complementary childcare infrastructure system in cooperation with local governments.

Parents attending the roundtable raised issues such as waiting lists for childcare facilities, the need to expand programs during school vacations, and difficulties in the reemployment process after career interruptions due to childcare, and they agreed on the need to promote policies in which education and welfare are organically connected.

Song Sukyung, Director of Character and Life Education, said, "We will continue to work closely with local governments so that school-based childcare centered on Neulbom School can be naturally linked with local childcare and employment policies," adding, "We will work together to create an educational environment where parents can safely entrust their children, while at the same time building a community-based foundation that supports women's career recovery."

Based on the discussions at this roundtable, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education and the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province plan to continuously promote policy improvements by strengthening the connection between Neulbom School after-school programs and local childcare and women's employment policies, and by reflecting feedback from the field.

548 schools and education support offices in the province to open parking lots free of charge from the 14th to the 18th

The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education will open the parking lots of 548 locations, including schools and education support offices in the province, free of charge from the 14th to the 18th, during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday period, to provide parking convenience for visitors returning to their hometowns and local residents.

Detailed information such as parking lot locations and opening hours can be found through Gongyoonuri, the Public Data Portal, Naver Map, Kakao Map, T Map, and the notice section of the Provincial Office of Education website.

Since no separate parking management staff will be assigned during the Lunar New Year holiday period, users of school and education institution parking lots must leave their contact information on the front of their vehicles so they can be reached in case of an emergency, and must follow usage guidelines such as observing parking time limits, refraining from illegal dumping of trash, and preventing damage to facilities.

Kim Namhak, Head of the Administration Division, said, "We hope that opening education institution parking lots free of charge during the Lunar New Year holiday will help improve parking convenience for visitors returning home and local residents," adding, "As these are shared spaces used by everyone, we ask that all users comply with the usage guidelines."
